The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) is pleased to invite you to a BigDebate on Corruption and Accountability amongst leaders of political parties ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Over the years, successive governments in the country have made numerous attempts to reform institutions, develop applicable legal frameworks, formulate and implement policies to promote a corruption-free environment. In fact, an attempt to curb corruption in Nigeria led to the establishment of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Despite a multifaceted approach towards combating corruption, not much has been achieved in this direction. Evidence suggests that corruption in Nigeria predicates on the inability of successive governments to create an avenue for openness and transparency in its activities, promote accountability and possess the political will to deliver good governance.
Ahead of the 2019 general elections, it is imperative that leaders of political parties and their presidential candidates are engaged in robust conversation on their preferred policies and programs to rid the country off corrupt practices. It is against this backdrop the Centre is organizing a BigDebate.
The debate is scheduled to hold as follows:
Date: Tuesday 15th of January 2018
Time: 10am prompt
Venue: Sheraton Hotel and Towers, FCT-Abuja
The event will be broadcast live on Channels TV, livestreamed on various online platforms including Daily Trust,, CDD website, etc.
Kindly note that participants will be responsible for their travel, room and board.
